Installation
Why should you get Artificial Grass Installed?
If you are considering getting an artificial grass installation, you have come to the right place. You may have question on why you should get artificial grass vs real grass.
There are many reasons to choose artificial turf especially in places like CA where we want to save water. Artificial grass helps with cutting down the water usage, reducing the time and cost of maintaining the outdoor areas of your property, and being cost effective in the long run.
How long does it take to install synthetic grass?
Depending on the size and shape of your yard, the average artificial grass installation takes one or two days of work. If you have a larger area or more complex setup, the installation can take a little longer. Few other factors that can affect how long it will take to install fake grass is as follows:
- Ease of Access
How easy it is to transport materials to your property or area which needs installation has a big impact on the time the installation will take. For example, if we are working on a front yard with street access we can get things done a lot faster than if we need to walk through your home or up and downstairs to reach a backyard.
- Edging
If the area that requires synthetic turf installation has lot of curved edges and complex shapes, artificial grass installation will take much longer. The material that is used as a border of the fake grass also affects the time an installation will take.
What are the benefits of installing Fake Grass?
- Stays Green All Year Round
What can be bigger benefit than having green grass all year round. With synthetic grass products, your lawn will stay green throughout the year despite of the season regardless of seasonal water usage restrictions, and you don’t need to worry about arranging lawn maintenance when you go out of town.
- Saving Time and Costs
Artificial grass requires very little maintenance and is lot more resistant to sun damage than the real grass. Real grass needs to be mowed, watered, and weeded on a regular basis. All of this takes up time and have associated costs such as gas, water, labor and herbicides. If you are in areas where climate presents additional challenges with its water usage restrictions and hard, arid soil, and without enough shade, then real grass won’t survive the midday sun. The cost of installing artificial lawn is major factor for many people to opt for synthetic turf installation.
- Keep Bugs Out Of Your Yard
With fake grass installation, you do not need to worry about inviting the bugs and insects in the area. Real grass can become home to a wide range of bugs and insects, some of which feed on the grass itself while others hunt those. While many of these are harmless, though annoying, there can be others that have painful bites and stings.

How to install the synthetic grass as DIY?
Start by digging out the turf down to about 3 inches. This will ensure that the end result isn’t taller than surrounding areas once the base layers are in place. If you’re edging the area, use timber or use a concrete edging restraint with an internal concrete haunch of about 3 inches.
Preparing the base
A sub-base below the turf aids drainage and provides a solid foundation for the artificial grass. The addition of a geotextile membrane underneath will prevent the sub-base from sinking down.
Leveling off
Spread a layer of sand to about 1-inch depth evenly across the sub-base and press it down using a hammer and plank.
Weeding out
Roll out sheets of weed membrane over the sub-base as a bedding layer. This will prevent weeds from growing and reaching through the surface of the fake grass, which will help it to drain more efficiently.
Roll out the lawn
Roll out your artificial grass with the pile facing towards you. Try to avoid lining up the ends of the rolls exactly, as it will give a less natural appearance.
Cutting and tidying
Once the grass is unrolled, trim the rough edges. Make sure the grass rolls are placed together so you can’t see underneath. Avoid cutting into the stitching wherever possible.
Glue together
Fold the edges back and lay jointing tape, with the shiny side face down. Hold the grass back and press down on the tape to spread the adhesive. Try to keep the blades of grass from getting onto the glue.
Pinning it down
If you’re using a timber frame, secure the grass to it every 6 inches or so, or glue the grass to the concrete haunch of the edging block.
Sweeping off
Once the glue is dried, sweep the surface to get rid of loose blades of grass. Fill in the grass using silica sand using a stiff brush, then leave everything to settle and cure for at least 2 hours before walking on it.
